Join Orlando's longest-running creative meetup to celebrate our 5th year of bringing likeminded people together. You can get great benefits out of meeting new people, like stimulating your brain, having a safe (non-judgemental) place to talk shop, finding someone to help you build that next startup, or just making friends.
The who live/work in East Orlando will get some due for a) being noisy and b) being present at last month's Happy Hour (seriously how could you guys miss out on free beer?). Therefore we are venturing on to the UCF campus near the stadium for the Tailgaiters Smoke House experience.
If we keep this up maybe we can eventually have more than one Happy Hour a month... (Dr. Evil Pinky)?
Also curious how we get some students - Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Computer Science, Creative Writing, etc to attend these if we keep doing them in their back yard. Discuss!
Thanks to Barry Kirsch for our new promo picture!
About FLCreatives Happy Hour
Whether you're a poet, an actor, a photographer, a producer, a marketer, a programmer, an entrepreneur or a combination of them all, you'll find some great conversation and new friends by attending, and coming back every month on the third Monday.
If you'd like to see events like this in your town, feel free to start one! We now have Facebook Fan Pages and LinkedIn Groups for Orlando, Brevard, Tampa, South Florida, Southwest FL, Tallahassee and Gainesville. P.S. Please bring a camera and snap some photos! You'll want to show your friends what it was like.

Drupal Developer | SDTN
We are looking to use Drupal as the CMS for our Scuba Diving website and have functional specifications already documented for the front end and admin panel. Additionally, we have pdf documents which detail the front end/admin panel design which must then be used to create custom themes in Drupal. This is a very large project that we will break down into many small milestones in which we seek deliverables on our server every 2-4 weeks depending on the actual milestone. Acceptance testing must also occur on our server and as such all source code and other deliverables must reside there prior to the beginning of the test period.
We are looking to create a long term relationship with the right development partner and will assist them throughout the entire development process. This partner must sign NDA and work for hire agreement. For each milestone, we will need a breakdown of cost for each section included in a milestone. Additionally, at the start of the project, we will place all funds for the related milestone into escrow and when all deliverables have been met and testing has been conducted on our server and all bugs fixed, if applicable, escrow will be released and we will move on to the next milestone.
Our first milestone will contain homepage as well as social networking features which include ability for individuals, businesses, groups to register as well as many facebook like features such as wall, newsfeed, dive buddy requests, chat, messages, photos, videos, events, memos etc. This milestone must be delivered to our server within 2 months of the actual start date. We are looking to begin on or before February 29 and have hard set timeframes for this milestone.
Additional future milestones will include SDTN Blog, Dive News, Travel Articles, Technical Articles, and Dictionary, photo/video gallery, and many others.
We will look to review 3-5 Live DRUPAL active sites that you have built with Drupal that have the features we are looking to implement. We will also look to speak with references. Please also supply your profile on Drupal.org.
Please provide your hourly rate.
Please contact us with any questions at melissa@sdtn.com.
Thank you.

Drupal Hosting Recommendations
We are wondering what other people in Florida think is the best hosting facility. We are pretty small now but hope to grow to significant traffic and don't want to have to move. Reliability, speed and knowledgeable Drupal support are important.
First off - Does anyone have recommendations on Unix/Linux/Ubuntu vs. windows environment? Our current hosting environment is windows 2008 server-based - not specifically a drupal host (Intermedia).
I read a recommendation for Greengeeks, Hostgator and Bluehost. Anyone have experience with any of these?

Downtown Credo’s Summit is a two day experience designed to show you how to affect change in our city and our world by living out a CREDO of meaning, impact and community. You will be challenged, inspired and equipped to impact our city in transformative and sustainable ways. We are bringing in 3 speakers from around the US to speak into these issues. This is an incredible Orlando event you do NOT want to miss!
Sean Carasso:An avid adventurer, Sean has spent much of his life pulling diverse communities together. After starting a number of small companies and grassroots initiatives, he traveled the world with an entrepreneur turned philanthropist, while volunteering alongside Invisible Children and TOMS Shoes. In late 2007, he journeyed into the Democratic Republic of Congo on what was meant to be a short stop. It was there he heard of children too small to carry a gun, who were sent to the front lines of war armed with only a whistle. The Falling Whistles campaign was born in response to a small journal entry he wrote that night. For the Credo Summit Mr. Carasso will talk about how a network of meaning, impact and community in a city is benefited by partnership across traditional dividing lines: socio-economic, religious, geographic, or business and non-profit. These sorts of networks are often built and sustained by focusing on serving their cities well.
Chris Heuertz:As founder of Word Made Flesh, Heuertz is an activist, author, visionary and public speaker. He has traveled with his wife, Phileena, through nearly 70 countries working with the most vulnerable of the world’s poor—Roma (gypsies), children with AIDS, prostituted women and girls, recovering drug addicts, children on the streets and refugees. For the Credo Summit Mr. Heuertz will share what he has learned about how authentic community among drastically different people can make a profound impact on individuals and cities.
Phileena Heuertz:As co-director of Word Made Flesh, Heuertz has focused on child advocacy, community care and leadership development. Through that work she has developed the conviction that union of action and contemplation is crucial to ongoing personal growth, healthy community life, and sustainable, authentic social justice efforts. For the Credo Summit Mrs. Heuertz will work to help us understand and share that conviction so that we learn how a life of meaning, impact and community can be both communally and individually sustainable.
Schedule:The summit will kick off with a large opening event Friday evening. The heart of this first evening is Sean Carasso’s presentation. This talk will be followed by a Q and A panel of all three presenters, facilitated by Ben Hoyer, director of Downtown Credo. Saturday morning Phileena Heuertz will lead a yoga class at the John H. Jackson Community Center. This will be a time to explore an experience that drives toward Phileena’s talk of maintaining an inner sense of meaning in order to sustain the life of meaning, impact and community. Chris Heuertz will lead a lunch conversation on cultivating authentic community across cultures, at the same Center. Saturday evening Chris Heuertz will lead off with his feature presentation and will be followed by Phileena Heuertz. The evening will conclude with a Q and A panel of the speakers, and Downtown Credo Division directors.
Credo Summit Committee:Ben Hoyer – Downtown Credo Director of Ideas and Development

There’s a full house on the podcast this week as Andrew, Ryan, and Mike are joined by Dave Terry (Mediacurrent), John Hannah (Friendly Machine), and Glenn Hilton (ImageX Media) to discuss the Drupal community’s less-than-stellar effort of marketing our beloved software to people outside the community. Both Dave and John have written thought-provoking blog posts on this topic in the past few months while Glenn has been a leader in organizing and evangelizing Drupal business summits. We also managed to discuss the Drupal Association’s recent at-large elections, Coworking Fridays, Acquia’s recent code contributions, recent usability studies, as well as our picks of the week!

Born from the desire to share and learn in an open environment, BarCamp Orlando is back and better than ever.
What is it?BarCamp Orlando is an annual community-building event which aims to bring people from different backgrounds together for cooperative learning. Technologies such as Ruby, PHP, Java and C will be present alongside graphic design, music, photography, and other new media. We hope to provide free t-shirts and lunch to all attendees, but can only do so with assistance from sponsors.
The First Rule of BarCampIt is strongly recommended that attendees give a demo, a session, or help with one. Don't be intimidated by this, just pick something you're passionate about and come give a talk on it. It could be anything... an operating system you use, a language you program with, or how to wash your cat. We have four speaking rooms at our venue, and a projector will be available at all but one.
Talks will be scheduled on the day of the event (that's part of the fun). We'll build a speaker schedule on a whiteboard starting at 9:30 am. Come early if you want to guarantee a speaking spot!
LocationFor the first time, BarCamp will take place in the heart of downtown Orlando's tech scene at The Plaza. We'll have four areas available for presentations in the north tower: Voxeo's 10th floor common area, and three in the 20th floor space that will soon be home to Envy Labs and Code School. Lunch will be served at TBA, and plenty of open space will be available to hang out and mingle.
Schedule- 9:30 amDoors open, people can sign up for talks on the whiteboard
- 10:00 amTalks begin at the four venues. Each presentation will last 25 minutes (we recommend leaving 5 minutes at the end for discussion)
- 12:00 pmLunch is served
- 1:00 pmTalks resume
- 6:00 pmBarCamp ends and the after party starts at TBA
We recommend the parking garage across from the Library. We'll have more information for you as the event gets closer.
